DESCRIPTION:Calling all bird enthusiasts to the Canyon River Ranch for an exclusive FREE event with Kittitas County ecology expert Deborah Essman. “I care deeply about getting people of all ages\, outdoors and inspiring them to learn about our natural world”- Deborah Essman. \nEvent Details: \n8-10:30am  Umptanum Bridge guided walk \n\nMeet Deborah Essman at the parking lot at 8am. 8:10am group will depart for a 3 mile round trip hike to discover birds\, ecology of the area including wildflowers. She has worn many hats in the conservation world: raptor rehabilitator for almost a decade in California\, taught ornithology at a community college\, veterinary technician and eagle release coordinator at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle\, Game Warden for the Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife for 8 years (including a couple years as a Detective in the Special Investigative Unit).

Learn about the ecology\, behavior\, and conservation of the region’s native snakes\, from Ring-necked snakes to Northern Pacific rattlesnakes. \n–       Learn about the role snakes play in shrubsteppe ecosystems and the impressive reptile diversity of Yakima Canyon \n–       Discover how to safely coexist with rattlesnakes and gain a greater appreciation for these remarkable and often misunderstood animals \n–       This is a kid-friendly event featuring live snakes for viewing and handling following the presentation. \nBio: \nAdrian Slade is a naturalist and herpetologist based in Central Washington\, where she has spent the past decade observing snakes in their natural habitats. Her work focuses on the natural history\, behavior\, and conservation of Pacific Northwest reptiles – especially northern pacific rattlesnakes and the imperiled striped whipsnake.
